The Issue

I am a dedicated surf photographer and passionate surfer who spends countless hours on our beloved local coastal beach break. This isn't just a spot I frequent—it's a vibrant community hub that brings together water sports enthusiasts, families, and nature lovers. Over decades, this area has been the heart of our community, fostering strong bonds among ocean-loving people.

Recently, a significant blow has hit our community. The land where we park to access this cherished spot was sold by the city council to the local port authority. They have since appointed a notorious parking management company known for its aggressive and intimidating practices to oversee parking in the area. As a result, parking fees have surged by an astonishing 100%, a hike that threatens to limit access for many in our community due to cost.

This isn't just about parking fees—it's about preserving access to a vital community space. For generations, this area has been freely enjoyed by photographers like myself,  dog walkers, surfers and water sports enthusiasts,  families, anglers, college and university students,  schools, carers,  The exorbitant fees and fear of incurring ridiculous penalties from this predatory parking company are not only unfair but also stand in stark contrast to the spirit of community and accessibility that this space represents.

This increase in fees is not only unreasonable but also harmful to our local culture and economy. This area draws a diverse group of people together, contributing to local businesses and promoting a healthy, active lifestyle.

We urge the local port authority to reconsider this drastic price hike and for the city council to intervene on behalf of its community. A more balanced and fair parking management approach is needed, one that respects and supports our local community members who have cherished and cared for this beach for decades. Let’s work together to find a solution that maintains the integrity of our coastal beach break as an accessible and welcoming place for all.

Please support our cause by signing this petition to demand a fair review and rollback of the increased parking fees. Your support can help protect our community's access to this treasured location.
