Prevent TCEQ from Granting UEC License to Mine Uranium in Goliad County

Prevent TCEQ from Granting UEC License to Mine Uranium in Goliad County

The Issue

I am a resident living within a 10 mile radius of the proposed uranium mining site in Goliad County, Texas. Being in the rural part of our community, my family, my pets, and the livestock on our farm relies solely on well water. This holds true for just about every other individual in our county as well. The potential threat this planned mining operation by Uranium Energy Corporation (UEC) places upon our only water source is immense and unfathomable. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) is looking at permitting UEC to carry out this detrimental act. However, we must stop this. Uranium mining operations, as documented by multiple credible sources, often lead to ground and surface water contamination. These operations increase the concentrations of radionuclides, heavy metals and arsenic in the water, transforming essential water sources into toxic pools. This possibility puts the health of our families, the integrity of our agriculture, and the wellbeing of our overall community at risk. We cannot let corporate interests gain victory over the safety and wellbeing of local inhabitants. We call upon you to join us in our demand to the TCEQ to deny Uranium Energy Corporation the license to perform any uranium mining operations in Goliad County. Help protect the birthplace of Texas ranching. Every signature counts in preserving our water, lives, and future in Goliad—please sign this petition.
