Prevent Smitty's Supply from rebuilding in Tangipahoa Parish

Prevent Smitty's Supply from rebuilding in Tangipahoa Parish
The Issue
I, like many others, was deeply affected by the recent incident involving Smitty's Supply in Tangipahoa Parish, LA. My own livelihood was severely impacted when a catastrophic fire at their site caused possibly irreversible damage to my property and ultimately led to the loss of my business. This has prompted me to seek justice and prevent further harm to our community.
Rebuilding Smitty's Supply in the Tangipahoa Parish poses a significant risk to all local residents, business owners, and our environment. The devastating impact this has had and will continue to have on the Tangipahoa River and other waterways in our area is unacceptable. The safety of our community should always be our top priority. We have all now seen firsthand the consequences of having an industrial facility in close proximity to our homes, businesses, waterways, and schools.
According to the National Fire Protection Association, oil and lube facilities are categorized as high-risk for fires due to the presence of flammable materials, and strict regulations must be adhered to in order to prevent such disasters. In my opinion Smitty's Supply did a poor job of preparing for what happened on August 22nd. Based on the companies safety record, I do not trust that they will take adequate measures to fix these issues if they were to rebuild in Tangipahoa Parish. Nor do I trust the regulating bodies to hold Smitty's to said regulations.
By signing this petition, we urge local government officials and regulatory bodies to prioritize the safety and well-being of Tangipahoa Parish citizens. Let's work together to create a safer environment for our community, protecting our lives, properties, and future from the risk of another devastating incident. Together, we can make a difference. Please join me in signing this petition to prevent Smitty's Supply from rebuilding in Tangipahoa Parish.
