Prevent Reduction of Car Lanes on Mountain Highway

Prevent Reduction of Car Lanes on Mountain Highway
The Issue
I struggle to understand the proposed changes for Mountain Highway. The plan to reduce the two-lane north bound road to just one lane, while introducing a bike lane, threatens to disrupt the lives of hundreds of commuters daily. Perhaps the idea of 2 lanes southbound and 1 lane northbound is a more practical idea.
Any minor obstacle, like a stopped bus or fender bender, would result in a severe backlog along the proposed single lane. This doesn't only affect me, but affects all others who rely on this route for their daily journeys. And what about the emergency vehicles that use Mountain Highway to get to emergencies around Lynn Valley?
We already face gridlock far too often with traffic trying to go southbound on Mountain Highway. Two (2) lanes southbound makes much more sense!
The decision is in the hands of the Council, set to review the proposal in a Special Meeting @ 5:00pm on Monday, November 25th.
It is necessary that our voices are heard before this meeting takes place. Meeting location: 355 West Queens Road, North Vancouver, BC V7N 4N5
While it is evident that creating safer space for pedestrians and bikers bikers is crucial, the reduction in car lanes should not be the primary solution to this. Proper urban planning should consider the needs of all road users. And consideration for a new bridge needs to be part of the future plan of Mountain Highway.
We need a solution that doesn't disadvantage the one group that uses it the most for the sake of another. We urge the Council to reconsider the proposed changes, and find an alternative that ensures safety and efficiency for all road users on Mountain Highway.
This is not just my plea, this is the plea of hundreds of daily commuters just like me.
