Prevent Proposed $6.4 million Budget Cuts to Los Angeles Animal Services

Prevent Proposed $6.4 million Budget Cuts to Los Angeles Animal Services
The Issue
Due to current underfunding at city shelters, I have witnessed dogs with broken bones and serious illnesses receiving no medical care, forcing them to languish and suffer until a private rescue intervenes. How much more suffering will occur should Mayor Bass enact this funding reduction? Despite the noble efforts of rescues, they are overwhelmed with the devastating numbers of abandoned pets, often leaving individuals and pets in dire need turned away.
The issue at hand? Mayor Bass is proposing to cut around $6.4 million dollars and 111 positions from Los Angeles Animal Services. As a result, those who cannot speak for themselves, our cherished pets, will be subjected to increased suffering. In fact, animal shelters are already under-resourced, with euthanasia rates of adoptable animals seeing a 72% rise from last year due to understaffing and budgetary constraints. These proposed reductions will exacerbate the current situation, causing the number of homeless pets to rise substantially as more people need help with neuter/spay, pet food, health, and housing.
We need to stand up for animals and prevent these cuts from being enacted. Show your support for our community's sweet, defenseless pets whose lives are directly impacted by these budget cuts. We must implore Mayor Bass and city decision-makers to reconsider their position and ensure our pets and future pets are given the appropriate resources, care, and love they inherently deserve. Please sign this petition. Stand with us for animals who cannot represent themselves and for those who love them.
