Thank you to everyone who has signed so far and shared our petition with other concerned residents.

We would also like to extend a huge thank you to the Wirral Globe for bringing light to our objections.

However, in light of some quotes from a heritage assessment carried out by Garry Miller Heritage Consultancy being referenced in the article - we would like to share some quotes from the original Meols Drive Character Appraisal and other evidence that contradicts Mr Miller’s Heritage Statement.

In his heritage statement, Mr Miller states

“It is demonstrated in this report that Westwinds’ contribution to this streetscene is a marginal one, being set back from Meols Drive and screened by gates, boundary walls and trees.

“The visual impact of the proposed additional storey will be equally marginal and restricted only to the immediate vicinity.

“It will be a minor, distant feature in the Meols Drive views[...].

“Proceeding further along Meols Drive, the proposed extension will become invisible as it becomes screened by the massing of foreground buildings.”

These statements are highly misleading in multiple ways. Firstly, as seen in image of this post - the house is certainly not “a minor, distant feature”. The image used by the heritage statement - and the Wirral Globe article - create an illusion that the house is obscured by trees and far in the distance when in reality the already 2 storey house is clearly visible from the road.

The statement also suggests the views from the road of Meols Drive are the only concern for the conservation area. We would like to point out that the views to and from the Royal Liverpool Golf Course are equally as important - as illustrated by this quote from the original Meols Drive Character Appraisal:

Meols Drive and the golf course are linked both historically and physically. The one constructed to take advantage both of the other and the surrounding landscape and seascape. The golf course and the surrounding housing on Meols Drive, Stanley Road and Lingdale Roads provide the setting for the each other and are mutually dependent.”

Another section of the appraisal document [related to extensions to historic properties] makes it clear that both the road and the golf course view of houses in the area are of equal importance as illustrated by this quote: "Having effectively two public faces, the road and the golf course, any ill considered extension in this area are particularly noticeable"

As you can see in the image of our main petition post, this property is clearly visible from the golf course.

Finally, I encourage you all to look into Garry Miller and decide for yourself if he is the right person to be assessing the conservation area. Investigate how knowledgable and trustworthy he is to be making such claims about the potential impact of this work on the area.

We would like to urge the Wirral Globe to expand their fact search beyond the submitted heritage statement written by Garry Miller and investigate further the wider impact on an area as rich in history as the Meols Drive Conservation Area.
