Prevent misuse of Donald Tinty Family Park in Farmington

Prevent misuse of Donald Tinty Family Park in Farmington
The Issue
Our community in Farmington faces a significant threat to a valued part of our Main Street/ Nadia’s Way/ Farmstead Lane/ Old Canal Crossing neighborhood, the Donald Tinty Family Park. This undeveloped park, gifted to the town by the late Mr. Donald Tinty, was intended specifically for recreational purposes according to the deed. However, after eight years, our town council has decided to revisit the idea of repurposing this invaluable green space as a cemetery site, by potentially challenging the deed legally. Worse, it has come to light during the May 12 town council meeting that the cemetery association has already made plans!
Should they proceed, such a drastic change would directly impact the families in this area of Farmington. This green space has become integral to our shared community's daily patterns and well-being. Our streets and homes would no longer be nestled next to a lovely area on which to walk, play, fly kites, sled, jaunt with our dogs, take family photos, jog, or have picnics. We, as residents, have imagined if this area were to develop more formally, it would be as intended, by working collaboratively with the town to develop this space into a recreational area that truly honors Mr. Tinty's original gift.
Transforming the park into a cemetery site not only neglects what we believe was his original vision but also strips away an essential recreational resource from our children and families.
Before making any irreversible decisions, our town council should consider alternative solutions that uphold the park’s intended purpose. A coalition of neighbors has spoken out at town council, have begun this petition and will continue to join our voices so that we can be heard in these shared concerns.
We need your support to protect our community's values and preserve the Donald Tinty Family Park for future generations. By signing this petition, you will help us communicate to the decision-makers that this park should remain a place of joy for the people of Farmington, just as we believe Mr. Tinty envisioned. Let us stand together and ensure that our voices are heard before it is too late.
We urge you to sign this petition and spread the word to safeguard Donald Tinty Family Park as a part of our town. Together, let's honor the legacy of Mr. Tinty and the wishes of our larger community.
NOTE: We thank you for your signature kind neighbor, but are not asking for your money. Please do not donate any ‘promotion’ this site may request as it does not fund this cause in any way.
