I am a local resident of Lower Northern Michigan witnessing the drastic changes in our natural landscapes. Our beloved area, a refuge for hunters, trail riders, and wildlife alike, is under threat. A plan is underway to lease over 1000 acres of our forested land in Higgins Township to Circle Power Resources or similar solar energy companies.

The notion of clear-cutting these serene woodlands to erect temporary plastic solar panels, and then labeling this initiative as “green energy”, is simply absurd. Our region, known for its untouched natural beauty, is steadily being consumed by the wave of 'progress'. Forests are laid bare, our lakes, rivers, and wildlife are disappearing, and once peaceful woodland scenes are being replaced by the cold glare of steel and plastic.

The value of these forests extends far beyond their natural beauty. Forests act as carbon sinks, aid in water filtration, and support diverse ecosystems. To lose such an expansive forest will inevitably lead to the decline of local biodiversity and could contribute to climate change acceleration.

If we don't voice our concerns, this will surely become the fate of our beloved forests. Thus, let us implore the Michigan Department of Natural Resources to rethink their decisions and prohibit land leasing to any solar energy companies planning to destroy our natural habitats. Time is of the essence; sign this petition to safeguard the wildlife, preserve our natural heritage, and protect Michigan's forests from decimation.
