Good evening, due to this petition increasing by another 100 signitures and finding out the response ACHA sent to me was sent to multiple people, I have sent another email, I will put it below this message. As soon as I hear back from them, I will update everyone.
Thank you all again♡
Dear Argyll Community Housing Association,
I am writing to formally and unequivocally object to the proposed allocation of housing in Garelochhead to Kevin Hobbs, a registered sex offender.
To date, 365 adult residents of Garelochhead have signed a petition opposing this decision. These figures are not speculative. They are based specifically on:
Census data for Garelochhead indicating approximately 1,377 residents aged 18 and over and,
This means that approximately 20% of the adult population of the village has formally recorded opposition, on top of this we have had roughly 50 signitures from outside the community, who also see the mindset behind this all to be bizarre to say the least.
This represents a statistically significant and democratically clear proportion of the community, and it cannot be dismissed as a minority view or an emotional reaction.
The concern is rooted in public safety and safeguarding. Garelochhead contains:
•A primary school,
•A public park used daily by children and families, and
•A community that includes vulnerable women and adults.
Placing a known sex offender within immediate proximity to these environments demonstrates a profound lack of consideration for risk, safeguarding, and community wellbeing.
The situation has been further aggravated by the response from your organisation. Residents received a generic, identical email that failed to meaningfully address specific concerns, provided little to no transparency, and conveyed a clear lack of care or engagement with the seriousness of the issue. This approach has only intensified fear, frustration, and distrust within the community.
To be absolutely clear:
This is not a matter of prejudice or discrimination. It is a matter of risk management, safeguarding responsibility, and duty of care to an established community — particularly to children and vulnerable residents.
We therefore formally request:
•An immediate review and reversal of the decision to house this individual in Garelochhead.
•Full transparency regarding the risk assessment process used to justify this placement.
•Evidence of consultation with safeguarding authorities, and an explanation as to why the community itself was not meaningfully consulted prior to this decision.
The level of opposition you are facing is substantial, justified, and growing. The residents of Garelochhead expect Argyll Community Housing Association to act responsibly and to prioritise public safety over administrative convenience.
I have attached the signitures.
I look forward to your response.
Yours sincerely,
Jennifer Crosthwaite and the Garelochhead Community
