Prevent housing development at Stockings Farm, NG5
The Issue
As a resident of Arnold and a member of this vibrant community, I write to express my deep concerns about the proposed development at Stockings Farm, situated on land between Mansfield Road and Calverton Road. The planning application (2026/0240) for 116 new homes brings with it challenges that threaten the safety and sustainability of our neighbourhood.
While we recognize the necessity for new housing, this particular proposal seems to overlook critical infrastructure and safety concerns. **One of our primary worries is the proposed use of Hadston Drive**, a narrow road at approximately 4.8 metres wide. This road is already struggling with current traffic levels, and adding more could make it perilous for daily commuters, the elderly, and especially schoolchildren who walk to nearby schools.
The potential increase in traffic volume is alarming. The narrow streets cannot accommodate a surge without risking safety, rising congestion, and eventual roadway deterioration. But beyond traffic concerns, the overall development poses significant risks related to drainage and flooding. Given the unpredictability of weather patterns, adding more pressure on existing drainage systems could lead to frequent flooding, damage to local properties, and potentially hazardous conditions during rainy seasons.
Additionally, the introduction of construction vehicles will undoubtedly lead to noise pollution and disrupt the peace of our community—a place many have chosen for its serene environment. This anticipated construction activity could damage our local roads, which weren't designed to handle such heavy use. The landscaping that gives Arnold its unique charm might fall victim to this development, overshadowing the natural beauty that residents and wildlife currently enjoy.
We must also consider the pressure this development would place on existing infrastructure and public services. Local schools, healthcare facilities, and public transport systems could be stretched beyond their limits, compromising the quality of services that residents depend on.
**We urge the council to rethink this proposal**. An alternative plan might exist that preserves the essence of our community while still meeting housing needs. We advocate for a thorough reassessment of the potential impacts, with the aim to seek a more balanced approach that addresses these concerns.
I invite everyone who holds Arnold dear to their heart to stand together in opposing this development as it currently stands. Together, we can ensure our community remains a safe, healthy, and pleasant place for all.
Please sign this petition to voice your support for a responsible approach to development, and to safeguard our beloved neighborhood from unwanted disruption.
