Hamza Ali Omar was an 18-year-old full of life and potential. Born and raised in Minneapolis, Hamza was known for his passion for basketball, his radiant smile, and his dedication to being a role model for his younger siblings. On August 18, 2023, Hamza’s life was tragically cut short in a drive-by shooting on the 4300 block of West Maypole Avenue in Chicago’s West Garfield Park neighborhood.

Despite ongoing efforts, the investigation into Hamza’s murder has seen little progress. When speaking to the detective assigned to his case, all we’ve been told is to have “hope.” While we deeply appreciate the work of law enforcement, we cannot sit idly by and allow this case to turn into yet another unsolved tragedy—a cold case.

Hamza’s family and community are heartbroken and deserve answers. Hamza’s story is not just another statistic; his life mattered, and his death demands justice.

We are urging the Chicago Police Department and all relevant authorities to prioritize Hamza’s case and do everything in their power to solve it. We ask for:

-Transparency and updates for Hamza’s family on the progress of the case.
-Commitment to ensuring this does not become a cold case.
