The Issue

I am a resident of Morden, a place I call home. The decisions that will be made in the coming weeks and months will shape our area for the next century. We are at a critical juncture where we must advocate for redevelopment that exemplifies excellent rejuvenation, not disastrous high rises with inadequate infrastructure.

Morden is in need of regeneration as many existing buildings have outlived their lifespan. However, any redevelopment must respect and maintain the existing character, heritage, and townscape of our neighbourhood - primarily consisting of 2 or 3 storey residential areas.

The new Merton Local Plan allows for a cluster of buildings up to 13-22 storeys high. This would dwarf the Civic Centre, which already towers above all other buildings in the area.  The Civic Centre should remain as the pinnacle building in Morden and any neighbouring developments should be reduced accordingly to avoid encroachment and excessive overdevelopment which is alien to the existing character.

This is about ensuring appropriate excellent new buildings while preserving what already works, both for existing residents and future generations living in Morden.

Please join me in urging local authorities to revise the Local Plan for Morden by signing this petition today.
