For me, this cause is personal. President Donald Trump's term has been marked by decisions and actions that have led to the degradation of democracies all over the globe. His policies have not only fostered global instability, but are also exacerbating conditions that could lead to genocides in some vulnerable parts of the world.

The Nobel Peace Prize is awarded to individuals who have made significant contributions to fostering peace and unity across the world. However, President Trump's tenure has consistently demonstrated a lack of respect for the virtues extolled by the Nobel Committee, such as diplomacy, international cooperation, and human rights. Instead, we have seen a disregard for democratic norms, the ostracization of traditional allies, and the favoring of autocrats, which according to a report in January 2021 by The International Crisis Group, has led to an increase in global conflicts.

The Nobel Committee should recognize the potential of the Nobel Peace Prize to inspire its laureates towards creating a more harmonious world, not reward those whose actions threaten global stability.
