Our neighborhood is a vibrant and family-friendly community where children walk and ride their bikes to nearby parks, schools, and local businesses. However, the plans to introduce a Dollar Tree store in one of our neighborhood storefronts threatens to disrupt this balance and could have far-reaching implications for the safety and well-being of our residents.

Less than a mile (a quick 15 minute walk) from the proposed site, which is accessible by multiple public bus stops, is an elementary school that serves 563 young students. These children, along with hundreds more in our neighborhood, walk and bike these streets daily. The presence of a Dollar Tree in such close proximity raises concerns due to the well-documented correlation between dollar stores and increased crime rates.

While we understand the convenience that a Dollar Tree can bring to some, it is important to emphasize maintaining the integrity and safety of our community. Instead of introducing a retail chain that could jeopardize our neighborhood's security, we urge local authorities and the zoning board to consider alternatives that align with the community’s character and values.
