Prevent Discrimination against families when renting property in Jersey

The Issue

Families with children need stability and a stable home life. Sadly, it is common practice for rental properties to state "no children" and this is preventing families from the basic need of a stable family home. This is particularly prevalent in the 'unqualified' sector but is also present in the 'qualified/licenced' sector too. In my opinion in Jersey families are being forced into homelessness or constant moving mode as a direct result of what I feel is discriminatory behaviour against families.

Have you or someone you know struggled to get decent accommodation? Have you or someone you know faced homelessness or had to move many times due to the "no children" ban? Have you or someone you know at any point had to fit into a 1 bedroom or studio apartment because 2/3 beds do not allow children? If you have been affected or know someone who has been affected please sign this petition.  The States of Jersey are debating imminently bringing in law to prevent landlords refusing to rent to families with children. Let's show Jersey every child deserves the basic right of a stable family home.

Responded
We live in an overly privileged society where conversations need to had about how families are struggling to find places to live because people don't want the 'inconvenience' in having families in their properties.
