Prevent Defunding of the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR)

The Issue

This petition is to prevent the Trump Administration from dismantling the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder, Colorado.

I live in Colorado. As a young kid I used to go up to NCAR, and I enjoyed it every time. This is a very valuable building in research and education, for children and adults alike.

The National Center for Atmospheric Research was founded in 1960 by the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF). Since establishment, NCAR has been crucial for its weather, technology, and atmospheric research, along with addressing challenges arising from climate change.

Recently, the Trump administration has been trying to defund NCAR and have labeled it "as a hub for 'federal climate alarmism'" (USA Today). If they defund it, the organization-along with its research-will be dismantled, which could negatively affect weather forecasting and prediction accuracy across the world.

On December 20th, 2025, hundreds of people (including Rep. Joe Neguse and Sen. John Hickenlooper protested against the defunding of NCAR near the David Skaggs Research Center. "Colorado Senators Michael Bennet and John Hickenlooper are holding up a government spending package to try to ensure that NCAR gets its funding." (CPR News).

Whether or not you could attend the protest, sign this petition to show support for the elected officials fighting the decision, and help prevent the defunding of the National Center for Atmospheric Research.

The signatures of this petition will be sent to Colorado Senators and Representative of my area (Michael Bennet, John Hickenlooper, and Brittany Pettersen).
