The Issue

As a resident of Green River, Utah, I've come to love the peaceful surroundings, the tight-knit community, and the natural landscapes that define our home. While the prospect of data centers being established in our town could bring jobs and potential tax revenue, we need to seriously evaluate the impact these mammoth facilities could have on our cherished environment and community resources.

Data centers are notorious for their insatiable need for water and power. In a region like Green River, where water is a precious resource, diverting this to cool servers can lead to severe consequences. It increases competition for water that is already stretched thin, And we are already in disputes over who gets a peice of the Colorado and green rivers, affecting our agriculture and daily lives. Moreover, the power used by these centers often necessitates infrastructural expansions, potentially leading to higher energy costs for residents. Cities such as Quincy, Washington have already faced challenges with increased demand on their electric grids due to large data center operations, causing both environmental and fiscal stress on local resources.

Beyond resource consumption, data centers can contribute significantly to noise and traffic. The constant drone of cooling systems, the bustle of maintenance traffic, and the aesthetic transformation of landscapes are real and disruptive to our daily lives. This could adversely impact our town's charm and the quality of life for Green River families, similar to issues experienced by residents near data centers in rural Oregon.

Green River's prerogative should be sustainable development that enhances our community without compromising our resources or lifestyle. We propose exploring alternatives like promoting small businesses or eco-friendly initiatives that align with our town's vision without the problematic environmental footprint of data centers.

Fresh Clean Water is already a limited precious resource required for all sustainable life on earth , why waste extreme amounts creating more problems we don’t need while making billionaires who you’ve never met richer and making life for the rest of us harder.
Join us in securing our future by safeguarding Green River against the unchecked encroachment of massive data centers. Please sign this petition to ensure that our local government prioritizes sustainable development over short-term gains. Your support is crucial in protecting our environmental, social, and economic welfare. Let's make sure that our town remains a place where we can all thrive.
