The Issue

I'm deeply concerned about the proposed cutbacks on state pension slated for 2027. As someone who lives on a fixed income, I understand all too well the financial pressure and anxiety faced by pensioners today. The cost of living is rising at an alarming rate, affecting everything from the price of groceries to essential utilities. These increasing expenses weigh heavily on individuals, whether they live alone or as part of a couple, and the impact is even more pronounced for those who rely on state pension to make ends meet.

Pensioners have dedicated their lives to working hard and contributing to society. They deserve security and dignity in their retirement years, not the looming threat of financial instability. Cutting back on state pension feels like a betrayal of the social contract we have with our elderly citizens.

Currently, state pension play a critical role in supporting those who are most vulnerable. According to official statistics, over 1.5 million pensioner households depend on pension credits to cover their daily necessities. Reducing these benefits would force many into untenable situations, potentially leading to increased reliance on foodbanks and other social services.

Instead of cutting back, the government should commit to protecting and, ideally, enhancing state  pension. The solution isn't in reducing support but finding ways to adjust the budget without harming those who have earned the right to enjoy their retirement peacefully. We must look into re-evaluating budget allocations or sourcing funds from less critical sectors that do not affect the daily lives of millions.

Sign this petition to send a clear message to our leaders: protect the state pension and show that we value and respect our elderly citizens. They deserve better than a retirement filled with worry and financial dread. Every signature can help ensure a secure and dignified future for our pensioners.
