I have lived near the beautiful fields behind Ashley Coombe for over three decades. In that time, I've watched the ebb and flow of the seasons, the vibrant wildlife that call this meadow home, and the peaceful setting it provides for community activities like dog walking and children's exploration. Recently, a proposal to build housing developments on this meadow has come to light. This is not solely an issue of environmental protection. Our local schools, health services, and sewage infrastructure are already overwhelmed. The additional strain such housing would impose threatens to make an already difficult situation untenable. The scene is familiar all over the UK, where rapid urbanization is depleting natural sites at an alarming rate. According to the State of Nature Report 2019, the UK has lost significantly more nature over the long term than the global average. Let's take a stand. For the sake of our local community, its welfare, and the wildlife with whom we share this land, we demand that the authorities reject the housing proposal.
