I am a resident of a small and dedicated community, an R20 residential area laden with homes and farms; a place where families, including my own, chose to live in this area, because it was zoned for residential homes. Not congested with commercial properties.The recent proposal to build a large jail complex threatens to shatter this tranquil existence. The prospect of a large-scale prison in our midst is alarming, to say the least, and we have fair reasons to resist such developments.

It is a fact that the operation of prisons often leads to an unintended mix of challenges for the neighbouring areas. According to a study by the Prison Policy Initiative, areas around  prisons often experience declining real estate values, along with a potential increase in local crime  Families with small children do not want their back yards sharing a fence with the complex. It will create traffic problems in an area already plagued with traffic issues.

Our community's strength lies in our unity and shared belief in protecting our way of life. Thus, it is a call to every resident and every individual who values family-friendly communities - let's stand against the proposed construction of the jail.
