Braunstone Lane (B5418) has a designated 30 MPH speed limit for this road, however 95% of vehicles travelling this route quite blatantly ignore this choosing to exceed this limit. 

The stretch I'am referring to starts at Braunstone Crossroads (A47 Hinckley Road) and ends at its junction with Narborough Road South (A5460). Over the years their have been a number of attempts to slow vehicles using the Lane without success.

The Last efforts to curb speed was to install highway signage as well as raised traffic islands which made no difference to the impact on local residence living on or near the road.

On the 26th October 2022 two 14 year old girls were involved in a RTC on the lane resulting in one of the girls being killed instantly, It was thought that the vehicle was travelling at more than twice the legal limit for the road.

Residents of this road have become unnecessary victims of increased speeding from vehicles using the lane as a short cut at night & in the daytime. As well as a increase in younger motorists taking the sharp S bends as a high speed challenge rather than a deterrent on the grounds of safety.

We the residents now want something more significant to be done to reduce vehicle speeds & protect those who live & walk along this road. Mini traffic islands or digital visual speed signs do not work.

We would like to see either traffic calming speed humps or Single lane chicanes put in place as well as central reservation for pedestrian to cross safely. This should reduce speed significantly and protect pedestrian from losing their lives in the future.
