The Issue

As a resident of Wilmington, Ohio, I am deeply concerned about the proposed creation of an AI data center in our community. Data centers, while crucial for technological advancements, unfortunately come with significant drawbacks that could adversely affect our beloved town and health.

Firstly, these facilities are notorious for their high energy and water consumption. Wilmington's current resources risk being stretched thin, potentially leading to insufficient drinking water for our families. Already facing natural resource limitations, adding a large consumer like a data center could exacerbate our struggles.

Environmentally, data centers contribute significant greenhouse gas emissions and e-waste. Our community, known for its beautiful landscapes and commitment to sustainability, could see a devastating impact on its environment. This is not a risk we should take lightly, as it could irreversibly affect our lives and community.

Moreover, the presence of a data center would bring several negative local impacts, such as constant noise, light, chemical toxins, and pollution. Noise pollution and constant light from machinery can disturb our peace, affecting our daily lives and health. Additionally, local utilities could rise due to increased demand, burdening residents financially.

To make matters worse, these centers often receive major tax breaks, shifting the financial obligations onto the local populace. This means we, as taxpayers, may end up shouldering the costs while large corporations enjoy benefits at our expense. Additionally, the health implications of living near such facilities, from noise-induced stress to pollution-linked diseases, can't be ignored.

Our community deserves better. Instead of accommodating facilities that endanger our resources and disrupt our lives, we should focus on sustainable development initiatives that align with our values and priorities.

I urge decision-makers, local government officials, and stakeholders to reconsider and halt the development of this AI data center in Wilmington. Let's protect our community from becoming a casualty of corporate interests and instead preserve its integrity, beauty, and health for future generations.
