Establish a recycling plan for synthetic turf.

Establish a recycling plan for synthetic turf.
The Issue
Surprise! California DOES NOT RECYCLE synthetic turf.
We called one hundred waste facilities in California. None of them confirmed to have artificial turf recycling capability. The tsunami of fake turf waste is already on the way. We need your click now to get ready.
Fake turf companies shift recycling responsibility to the turf owners.
- Quote from The Synthetic Turf Council: "The project owner has the ultimate responsibility of ensuring that the synthetic turf system is recycled, reused, repurposed and/or disposed of in a responsible manner."
- Quote from TigerTurf, one of the largest synthetic turf suppliers: "We encourage our customers to try and re-sell, donate or recycle parts of the synthetic turf wherever possible."
A lack of centralized effort leads to a disaster.
While Newsom considers a ban on watering of "non-functional grass" at commercial facilities, artificial grass requests have doubled within the last 3 years.
We do not see a centralized effort of the synthetic turf industry to find a solution. Homeowners and commercial users dump used turf at landfills.
An average artificial grass backyard is generating waste equal to 45 years of plastic bottles used by one person. We are winning the fight against plastic straws, while a major source of pollution is right in front of us.
We need help from the government to unite recycling efforts in California and nationwide.
Our plan.
- Gather voices to bring attention to this issue.
- Petition the government to design a solution.
- Provide data and insight on the issue.
- Monitor the progress of the state artificial turf recycling program.
