Prevent 2155 Dowler from Becoming a Homeless Hub and Supervised Consumption Site

The Issue

As a resident of the vibrant neighbourhood in Victoria, BC, I'm deeply concerned with current proposals to convert the site at 2155 Dowler into a homeless community hub and supervised consumption site. This facility is set to open by the end of august and we have had zero community consultation.

This concern arises not from a lack of empathy for those affected by homelessness and addiction, but from a recognition of the local impact this transformation could have. Our community is a residential haven, home to children who play freely on the streets and a place where low-income seniors live.

Transposing services like homeless hubs and supervised consumption sites(inhalation/injection) into residential areas can potentially cause an increase in crime rates and a decrease in property values, affecting the livelihoods of residents.

This location is next door to a subsidized building to assist at risk seniors. Further, it is 400 feet from a school.

For these reasons, we urge appropriate authorities to reconsider the planned transformation of the 2155 Dowler site into a homeless hub and supervised consumption site. This is not about refusing help to those who need it most; it's about prioritising the safety and tranquillity of our residential community.
