I received a response from the Australian press council here the reply
here what they said
"Dear Mr Lorenzo, Herald Sun, “Q&A star Duncan Storrar exposed as thug as public raise $60,000 (online, 12 May), “ABC HERO A VILLAIN”, “ABC Q&A sob story star exposed as a villain” (print, 13 May 2016) The Australian, article “The truth about my father, Duncan Storrar, the Q&A ‘hero’” (online, 12 May 2016 We refer to your complaint received on 14 May 2016 concerning coverage on 12 May 2016 in the publications cited above. Your complaint has been processed in accordance with the Council’s secondary complaints-handling process. More information on this process is available here. In your complaint, you expressed concern about “vilification and defamation” of the subject of the articles, Mr Duncan Storrar. This has been treated as two separate complaints as it concerns two separate publications and articles. As to the Herald Sun article, please note this matter remains under consideration and we will notify you of the outcome once available. As to The Australian article, after careful consideration the Executive Director has decided not to proceed further with the complaint. In reaching this decision, we have taken into account several factors, including that the article is based on an interview with Mr Storrar’s son, affording him an opportunity to respond to the positively received public comments (both on the original Q&A programme and subsequently) of his father and the corresponding “donat[ion of] tens of thousands of dollars to a Go Fund Me page set up” for him. In such a context, the article is considered unlikely to breach the Council’s Standards of Practice, including General Principles 3 and 4 in relation to fairness and balance and General Principles 5 and 6, in relation to privacy and avoidance of harm. Although we are not proceeding further with the complaint, the publication will be informed of your concerns about the article. We realise that this outcome may not be exactly what you hoped to achieve, but we appreciate your concern about compliance with appropriate media standards and we thank you for bringing it to our attention. Apart from the outcomes in specific cases, we do try to learn from the broad pattern of complaints in an effort to improve media standards and to target our educational initiatives. Kind regards,
Justin Levy Complaints and Compliance Officer"
