Hello!
After almost two years with recommendations from WildWelfare, the above picture shows that work is finally being done to expand the sun bears' pit#1 (this is where Kardit was featured begging for food with his ribs showing) In one of my older updates, I informed everyone that WildWelfare went twice to Bandung Zoo (as a result of public outcry) https://behindbarsbandungzoo.blogspot.com/ and https://behindbarsbandungzoo.blogspot.com/2017/11/2016-august-wild-welfare-ngo-from.html to inspect the sun bears pits and informed the Bandung Zoo that the pits are too small and inadequate for the number of sun bears they have.
I have not seen any work being done on sun bear pit #2 yet. Here is a video of pit #2 (it can be seen midway of the video) https://www.dropbox.com/s/o2cxezr5fh2zuro/Kebun%20binatang%20bandung.mp4?dl=0 This pit is even worst than pit #1. I will continue to keep my eyes on pit # 1's expansion and on the Bandung Zoo.
This is why pressure campaigns work. Although this petition features the sun bears, all the other animals in the Bandung Zoo desperately need our voices to keep up the pressure for them too. The very reason why I keep this petition going.
Thank you animal heroes, for signing and continuing to share this petition. All of you are making a difference!
In my October 2017 update, (you can watch the video update in the main petition) Kardit appears to have put on some weight, which proves that he was not getting sufficient food, though the Bandung Zoo and their NGO partner Cee4Life, vehemently deny this!
A few days ago, a lady (name withheld) asked if the "sun bears were genuinely saved", Cee4Life said, "YES".
I LIKE TO KNOW WHAT EXACTLY DID CEE4LIFE "SAVED THE SUNBEARS FROM" because, according to Sybelle/Cee4life and the Bandung Zoo, the sun bears "WERE NEVER STARVING" and they are "SO LOVED".
I remain committed against all zoos. Animals should not be taken from their habitats, forced to breed and displayed for money! Zoos will say that one of the reasons they exist, is for conservation. This is a farce because we know that very few of these animals will be returned to the wild. Instead, the animals are traded and exchanged with other zoos to improve the "gene pool". Some zoos even euthanize excess animals!
If zoos genuinely want to conserve, they should protect the animals' habitats by lobbying for strict laws to punish the poachers and big organizations (palm trade) for severely destroying the animals habitats. In my opinion, 99.9% of zoos exist for the sole purpose of profit. It about exploiting innocent animals and has very little to do with conservation.
On 05/18/2018 the Bandung Zoo swapped 1 male and 2 females Timor deer, and 1 female sun bear with Solo Zoo, claiming that they did it for conservation and to prevent inbreeding. They also said they have too many Timor deer. The baby female orangutan and sun bear born into the zoo last year, as we know, will never be returned to the wild. They will share the same sad and cruel fate like their parents, sentenced by humans who breed them into a life of captive exploitation and misery. Their existence and sole purpose is to replace old tired animals as, cute babies boost foot traffic and profits!

I like to introduce you to a blog for the Bandung Zoo, by Rebecca Rodriguez of One Animal World https://behindbarsbandungzoo.blogspot.com/
This blog will help maintain pressure on the Bandung Zoo to either improve their practices and care for the animals properly, or close their doors. It will also hold their zoo protectionist partner, CEE4Life, accountable (though Sybelle continues to deny that she ever lied) More news and facts will be added in chronological order as we find them. So be sure to check back frequently when you find some spare time.
Please continue to be the voice of these poor animals by signing and sharing this petition and also the following 2 petitions as they are linked to this petition.
