Hello! I received shocking news yesterday from a good Samaritan who is an animal advocate (thank you!) about an orangutan in the Bandung Zoo caught smoking on camera. The video appeared to have been taken a few days ago by visitors. It is of a younger endangered orangutan. https://www.instagram.com/p/BkKN7W1n6JZ/?taken-by=aneuuunyuna (this link has disappeared) but here is one that works https://www.dropbox.com/preview/smokingorangutanjune202018.mp4 If you remember, over 3 1/2 months ago on March 4th 2018, Ozone the endangered orangutan was also caught on camera, picking up and smoking a cigarette thrown to him by a visitor to the Bandung Zoo. It was very distressing, heartbreaking and sad to watch the younger orangutan smoking like a pro. At one point he/or she picked up what appeared to be second cigarette from the ground, put it in its mouth, swallowed and chewed it whilst smoking the other cigarette. It then inhaled the smoke and exhaled it out of its nostrils. The family who captured this incident appeared to be very distressed. They can be heard desperately urging the orangutan to discard the cigarette. They shouted "buang", "Oi, buang", "buang", at the orangutan which means "throw away". You can hear the woman exclaimed "Aduh" (Oh!) in horror when the orangutan exhaled the smoke through its nostrils. They duly tagged the Mayor Bandung about this incident. (Sincerest thanks to this family for capturing this and for tagging the Mayor) The Mayor and his wife are foster parents to Cinta Lestari, a female orangutan who was born in September 2017 into a life of captive misery and exploitation. This recent footage is a clear indication that Ozone the "smoking orangutan" in the Bandung Zoo is NOT an isolated case. We now know that two of the orangutans in the Bandung Zoo smoke, and both are very apt at it! 1) How many other occasions have their smoking gone unnoticed? 2) Are the orangutans in the Bandung zoo addicted to nicotine? 3) What is the zoo managment excuse now? ... "the guard went for a break"? No doubt the Bandung Zoo NGO partner Sybelle Foxcroft of Cee4Life will go into full Bandung Zoo protection mode like she always does. Shame on Sybelle Foxcroft who continuously claim to be helping the animals at Bandung Zoo but all we have seen is animals living in misery and, more animals being born into misery and a zoo that offers NO SECURITY for the animals they continuously exploit. We see her and her organization Cee4Life "caping" for this disgusting zoo while claiming to be a "conservation" group. She lies, fabricates and smears others from behind anonymous vile blogs to make herself look good and relevant. Lately, Sybelle Foxcroft has been promoting and trying to justify keeping animals in captivity, pointing to their loss of habitat as a reason. (We are very aware of the destruction and rapid loss of habitat for the animals in Indonesia) Using loss of habitat to justify keeping animals in deplorable concrete prisons and exploiting them is disgraceful! Cee4Life and the Bandung Zoo also like to claim that they are working to "conserve" endangered species. Since when is the lack of supervision in the zoo which led to the orangutans smoking, a conservation effort?
