Hello! Many of you who follow my updates know that I have contacted WAZA numerous times. I messaged them again this time via Facebook to ask for contact information for SEAZA (south east asia zoo and aquariums) as they did not respond to my emails. It took a while before they finally responded a few days ago!. WAZA relies heavily on membership MONEY from zoos and aquariums. To me, this is like allowing the "fox to guard the hen house" Of course their priority would be to those who pays them "torture and exploitation money" Whose interests do you think they would protect? For sure it isn't going to be the poor animals, after all these animals can't pay them! WAZA regulates zoos and aquariums. The question is, WHO monitors WAZA and SEAZA? The relationship between WAZA/SEAZA and their zoos and aquariums members in my humble opinion, seems very symbiotic. How long did it take you to respond to my request? It appears to me that your organization is in for members money. You are funded by zoos and aquariums. So how can your monitoring of zoos and aquariums be legitimate? If you punish bad zoos then you are basically cutting of your money stream. If I want to guard my chickens, I don't get a fox to do it! There are over 10,000 zoos and aquariums in the world, yet only 353 meet the standards to be WAZA members. The remainder are sub-standard, often to the point of criminally poor care, and can be found throughout the world. WAZA addresses the husbandry and health concerns in these facilities as often as it can, but the scale is beyond the capacity of any single organization. Thank you. Rather than giving me prepared talking points why don't you do something about it! Where there is a way there is a will, please don't give me sob stories about it being beyond your capacity!
