Hello all,
Here is a link of list of protected/endangered species in Indonesia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fauna_of_Indonesia
Industralisation and the appetite for palm means that the flora and fauna of Indonesia are being threatened every second!
It is sad that zoos use the excuse of conservation to exploit the endangered species. If a species is protected/endangered then it is the Government's responsibility to enforce their laws but sadly it is not being carried out and poor innocent animals continue to suffer. If zoo wants to carry out conservation effort, then provide the animal with a decent habitat!
As you all know due to the recent outcry and spotlight on the Sun Bears in Bandung zoo the Department of Forestry and Environment will be standardizing their zoos. I have not seen what it entails or when the roll out will be. I will ask Rebecca to ask about this when she and team gets there. We will hold the Department feet to the fire.
As you all know I am helping Rebecca with her goFund efforts https://www.gofundme.com/sunbearsindonesia?viewupdates=1&rcid=r01-149504448203-27fe8aefc4b94604&utm_source=internal&utm_medium=email&utm_content=cta_button&utm_campaign=upd_n
Please share the campaign and petition. Every dollar helps. Thanks as always for your support.
PS: Orangutan (Orang Hutan) in the Malay language means Forest People. They share 97% of our human genes. Sad that these forest people are killed for palm and also kept as prisoners in zoos in a concrete prison.
