Allow U of Tampa Graduating Class of Spring 2020 to Walk After Corona Virus Pandemic
The Issue
First and foremost, I am not only speaking for myself, but for the entire graduating class of Spring 2020 at The University of Tampa. We are distraught, frustrated, irritated, and most importantly, feeling like we are not worthy enough to have a face-to-face graduation. We have spent countless hours of being stressed, constant tears, frustration, sleepless nights, and dedication to this school for 4 entire years of our lives. We have made friendships and memories we will hold close to our hearts no matter where we end up after graduation. Not only did the students dedicate 4 years to this school, but also our family members who encouraged, supported, and always stuck by our side when we needed them the most. Many of them sacrificing their lives to make sure us, students, could go to a college where it made us feel like home and would provide the best education. We have longed for this opportunity to walk across that stage, throw our caps up in the air, and finally say WE FINALLY DID IT. Now, we are left in tears knowing we won't have that opportunity to do what every college graduate dreams of doing. Families and friends from all over the world were looking forward to this special moment to celebrate their graduate and their accomplishments they have and will achieve. Now, it is completely stripped away from us. We, the graduating class of Spring 2020, are asking the President at The University of Tampa to rethink his decision of cancelling the Spring 2020 commencement ceremony and not to proceed with a virtual ceremony. We are asking to have a face-to-face ceremony after the virus pandemic has resided and to postpone graduation until further notice. Students, families, faculty, friends, etc, I ask you to sign this petition to help the efforts in moving towards an agreement to have a face-to-face commencement ceremony for the Class of Spring 2020.
