Can a suspected terrorist who is on the no-fly list legally buy any gun they want? Terrorists are committed to inflicting mass murder to further their cause. Suspected terrorists are not allowed to fly on U.S. commercial flights, they cannot purchase a plane ticket. This is controlled by their being placed on the "no fly" list. However, they are not considered dangerous enough to be prohibited gun purchasers. They can legally go into any gun store and buy as many guns as they want—of any type--including assault weapons. Current gun laws require that records of their purchase must be destroyed within 24 hours. This adds to the gun violence epidemic we are living under. Despite this heightened threat to public safety Congress will not change this insane reality, and absent a declared National State of Emergency due to the gun violence epidemic, President Obama cannot issue an executive order to change it. However, if President Obama declares a National State of Emergency (NSOE) due to the gun violence epidemic, then he can issue an executive order to change this insane reality. Why? Because under a declared NSOE he does not need congressional approval for his actions any more than he would if he issued executive orders under a declared NSOE due to an influenza epidemic. The most recent emergency declaration by President Obama involved the wildfires in California. This was in response to 3 lives being lost and 1,200 homes being destroyed (estimated value $1.2 billion dollars). How can the gun violence epidemic—which claims 30,000 lives PER YEAR at a cost of $229 billion PER YEAR—not qualify as a NSOE? By declaring an NSOE due to the gun violence epidemic, President Obama can independently issue the needed executive orders to halt it and assure that it does not reoccur. In 2009 Obama declared an NSOE to halt the swine flu pandemic. At the time he acted 20,000 people had been hospitalized and 1,000 lives were lost. We are going to undertake a major public relations campaign to awaken the country to the need for President Obama to declare a National State of Emergency due to the gun violence epidemic—this is the only way to halt it now!!!
