Because of the mandatory quarantine, every student is now taking classes online from home. Most teachers and students are new to this so grades are likely to drop in the first place. But this would also negatively affect people that have more distractions at home. Let us say Cadet A is an only child in a medium-income household. Both of their parents work during the weekdays. They have their desk in their room with a fast computer. While Cadet B has 3 siblings and lives in a small house. Their single mother goes to work every day and sees Cadet B as a chance to get out of paying for daycare. So she put the responsibility of watching the kids on Cadet B. Their computer is a laptop from 6 years ago that doesn’t have a webcam or working mic. Which Cadet do you think is going to get a higher grade in the class? Cadet A is going to get a much higher grade. The letter grade system during this quarantine will not work and will hurt many cadets. The citadel needs to switch to a pass/fail system to fix this.
