McDaniel College adopts a Chosen Name Policy. Not only has this policy reached the Trans* community, but others throughout the campus who go by another name then what their birth certificate may say. This has been a huge success and multiple systems were changed to include the preferred name and display only the preferred name on things such as rosters and email accounts, not just identification cards. Addressing someone properly as they respectfully request is the smallest thing you can do to put the biggest smile on a Trans* person's face, whether you know they're transgender or not (because it's none of your business to know unless they want you to). After a lot of hard work from many different people, the policy has been voted on and went into effect at the start of McDaniel College's spring 2016 semester. Thank you everyone who helped push this issue. And now some burden for Trans and non-binary students will be lifted. This is just the start of making McDaniel College a safe and accepting campus from the Trans* community.
