The Italian Studies Program at Laurentian University has such a profound impact on the Italian Community of Sudbury. For over 30 years, it has allowed so many to maintain and strengthen their Italian culture with its teaching, community involvement, scholarships, research, theatre productions, and so much more.

The Sudbury Italian community represents the third largest cultural group in Sudbury after the Anglophone and Francophone ones, with Italian being the third language most spoken in Northeastern Ontario (after English and French). The connection between the Italian Studies program and the Italian community in Sudbury is an extremely strong one.

The Italian Studies Program is recognized as a program that delivers innovative and cutting-edge courses at all levels of language. The dedicated professors have always provided unwavering support to their students, past and present.  Their achievements are numerous, their influence immense and their teachings memorable.

As restructuring decisions at Laurentian University are being considered we need to show our support for the Italian Studies Program to ensure that it is preserved so that these committed and passionate professors can continue to provide their world class program.
