We the undersigned, the students, living, working in or outside Zanzibar  value heritage schools in Zanzibar  and recognize them as a civic asset. The Revolution Government of Zanzibar , has proposed to demolish Darajani and Vikokotoni  Schools.

This is part of our heritage. Act now. Help to preserve our corner of the world, our historic neighborhood icon. Sign this petition to demand that the SMZ Government

1.       An investment in knowledge pays the best interest. We need more investment in Education than shops

2.      Reverse their decision to demolish these historic school buildings.

3.      Save the schools for future generations and to recognize its heritage value

4.      Continue to allow the local community to benefit from using the building for community use

5.      Scrap proposals to build a shops on the site

6.      Present this petition to Baraza la Wawakilishi to debate decision

7.      Ask for consultation with the whole community and for any decision to be made in public

8.      Tourism being Zanzibar’s main industry we should be preserving the local architecture instead of demolishing it

 The buildings are part of Stone Town Historic Places. It is important to preserve this historic icon, both for the neighborhood and for the Zanzibar. 

As an alternative to demolishing any of the buildings, we propose that the Government to Build their planned shopping Malls outside Stone town and preserve the schools.

Why is this important?
