The White House has released a statement to signers of the Free Steven Avery petition stating that the President of the U.S. doesn't have the authority to pardon Steven Avery or Brendan Dassey. In response, I have removed the President as a recipient of this petition. It is now primarily addressed to Judge William E. Duffin. Judge Duffin is currently reviewing Brendan's writ of habeas corpus, which gives him the power to exonerate Brendan or grant him a new trial (or neither). Please continue your efforts to promote this petition. Judge Duffin's response could come within days, or later in the year.
