BOYCOTT STUDENT LOANS

The Issue

“They’re in real trouble,” were the words President Joe Biden used to describe the millions of college graduates in America struggling to pay back crippling student loan debt. On that day, November 16, 2020, he reaffirmed his commitment to forgiving $10,000 of student loan debt immediately upon election to office, and we believed him.
What happened Mr. President? What happened to make you abandon your campaign promise to us to help us ‘build back better’? Press Secretary Jen Psaki says youre waiting for Congress to pass a bill, but you’re country is struggling and looking to you for leadership!

I remember exactly how old I was when I realized college trust funds weren’t in my reality. I remember having to chose between a job and track & field when I was supposed to be building my extra-curriculares for college applications. I had to rely on my high school to help me pay for college books, which the $13,000+ a year doesn’t include. Of course classes would assign the newest version of every book, but I’d find the cheapest one and hoped the same information was in there because if not I’d be paying over $1,000 for books alone. There was a time a professor graded on whether or not we had our supplies, and I had to take minus points for not having colored pencils. Having my lack to financial resources be the chip on my shoulder I had to carry through all four years, and for the rest of my life. But Mr. President, you can change that.

This petition is asking you to sign an executive order to cancel predatory student loan debt. Debt that will trap me and countless fellow Americans for most of our lives. Debt that is essentially double what we borrowed to begin with. Debt that preys on our American dream of a higher education, even if we couldn’t afford it at the age of 18. We deserve a better America than the one our parents had, so we can give our future generations the best America yet.
