Reform the standard of care in hospitals for the mentally ill

Reform the standard of care in hospitals for the mentally ill
The Issue
Recently, it has come to our attention that the standards of care in hospitals for treating mentally ill patients is in need of immediate reformation. We have heard the horrific stories of countless mentally ill people who were mistreated, denied the care they need, and even abused while trying to seek treatment at a hospital. This means that mentally ill people are not receiving the health care they need to better their lives. This year, it will affect 61.5 million American adults who will experience mental illness. Everyone should care about this considering that more than 90% of those who die by suicide suffer from one or more mental illnesses. If we do not take action on this, the mentally ill community will continue to suffer considerably under dire circumstances. We need laws to protect these people and programs to regulate and monitor their care. We need legal action to make a change that will impact millions of people's lives and possibly even save them. Let's make that change now rather than later. Mental illness is real and deserves at least the same quality of care of that as physical illness.
