Karnataka Sahitya Academy has announced on 19/9/2015 its award for the year 2013 to Mr. (Prof) K S Bhagavan. Bhagavan is known as a ridiculous person throughout Karnataka and southern part of India as well, for his unmeaning, invalid and irrelevant statements, for past two years. It is visible that there is a negative public opinion regarding Bhagavan in Karnataka. In spite of this considerable public opinion, the present state Govt. of Karnataka which is led by Siddharamaiyya has played a devil’s role against the majority Hindu notions, and awarding Bhagavan.

It is our rightful demand and appeal with the academy to skip off  Bhagavan’s name from the published list. It is clear that, not because of intellectual and academic excellence and dexterity he is enlisted, but because of hurting the faith of majority Hindus by his maligning and thoughtless statements.  Awarding Bhagavan is nothing but the demeaning of academics and literary world in Karnataka, and for sure it remains as a black spot in the history of Karnataka Sahitya Academy. It is not at all good to award an anti social element with well reputed award like Sahitya Academy. This is the height of dictatorship, the Hitler rule. The government perhaps of the opinion that, power to rule is endless and unquestioned. This is the time to show the potentiality of common public.

Our appeal to the govt. of Karnataka and the Sahitya Academy which comes under the govt.

1. The govt. / academy should publicize the list of judges of the award.

2. What criterion is followed to finalize each particular writer? What were the criteria actually set for short listing the awardees? What all the names were short listed for the award? – These facts should come forth.

3. A Sahitya Academy award to Bhagavan! Again, which criterion is fulfilled? Is a person who is spoiling public harmony and peace with rubbish statements, a person who is instigating peaceful Hindus with the statements against established faith and harmless practices- eligible to be awarded? Academy and the govt. are answerable here.

4. Most of the names in the list are raising some questions as well as rumors. The persons with insignificant contributions also are short listed. This very action certainly spoils the reputation of the academy. Has academy executed impartially while finalizing the names? This is to be cleared.

5. The final list emphasizes on the people of one particular ideology, this gives a hint of possibility of the great lobby that might have happened behind the screen. One cannot deny the direct interfere of the state govt. in the same. And hence, the Kendra Sahitya Academy should mediate here in this issue.

And taking this in to account-

6. The announced list of awardees should be reconsidered for changes and rectification.
