A Ghanaian court on Tuesday denied bail to 21 gay rights activists arrested nearly three weeks ago for what police described as an unlawful gathering. These activist had gathered to discuss how to protect the LGBTQ community from police and random acts of violence by poorly informed citizens.  The unlawful arrest and incarceration of these activist is an act against their basic right as humans to seek self determination.

It is clear this arrest was fueled by efforts by some concerned citizens who believe gay behavior is wrong. However no one arrested was actually engaging in any behavior remotely close to what these individuals believe. 

The President of Ghana will need to exert the power given him by the people of Ghana to protect the least among his people. I will end here by reminding President Akuffo-Addo and his people of what the Bible says in Matthew 25:45 "He will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.'" NIV
