The eight-strong Eco-Conscious Citizens GH (ECC GH) member presence at the La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly (LaDMA) meeting in Accra to discuss an 'Application For Change of Use of a Portion of Parks & Gardens Switchback, From Green Civic to Exclusively Civic to Aid Construction of an Office for Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development', essentially a re-zoning application, resulted in the avoidance of what could have been a rubber-stamping process.
The hastily-convened meeting had been aimed at "technical" stakeholders from statutory bodies, with no community or civil society organisations invited. What was on offer was the building of a multi-storey office complex on land meant for parks and gardens. Whilst a decision on the re-zoning was not made this morning, the fight continues, until the any application for re-zoning is off the table, and the disputed land is reserved solely for parks and gardens - that's a green economy, and not concrete development.
