We are asking President Mark Schlissel of the University of Michigan to cut all university ties with the Ann Arbor Police Department, as well as defunding, disarming, and scaling back the operations of DPSS. 

In 2014, Ann Arbor Police Department officer, David Ried, killed Aura Rosser, a black woman, within seconds of entering her home. The city continues to blame the murder on Rosser's "substance abuse" and "mental illness". Ried has since been promoted within the AAPD to sergeant. 

The AAPD is no less guilty than police departments across the country. We ask Pres. Schlissel to stand with Black students and commit to their safety by cutting ties with the AAPD, and commit to a concrete plan of disarming and scaling back DPSS.
