Hello! My name is Wesley Grant and I was giving an unfair prison sentence over drug chargers. I have been in a Federal Penitentiary for five years for a non violent drug charge. When I went to court, there were a number of things that violated by rights such as not having a jury of my peers and the jury received erroneous jury instructions. Upon my first appeal the judge stated that even if I had a jury of my peers my sentence would have still been the same, which is a term of life. I was not the person that sold the drugs at the time the crime was committed and there was written statement that I didn’t have anything to do with the sell. 

With the passing of the First Step Act that reduced my sentence however the sentence is still not fair. Reducing the mandatory minimum sentence is another phase that I am waiting for, which can take time for policy makers and politicians to sign into effect and possibly make it retroactive. 

We have all made mistakes in our lives and all I am asking for is to have another chance at receiving a fair sentence or receive immediate release. I am using the resources that I have access to and I plan on being released and being a better person. I have family and children that miss me and I want to be there for them.
