SPRING BREAK EXTENSION AND AN ACADEMIC GRACE PERIOD FOR PEOPLE TO SITUATE THEIR LIVES.

SPRING BREAK EXTENSION AND AN ACADEMIC GRACE PERIOD FOR PEOPLE TO SITUATE THEIR LIVES.

The Issue

Starting Monday, March 23rd, the students of Towson University are expected to be ready for distance learning to begin and are supposed to be engaging in course work as if their lives have not all been altered to some capacity by the recent changes that have been implemented by the University of Maryland School System and the CDC. There are people who are trying to organize new housing for themselves, trying to figure out how they will now feed themselves, and others trying to adjust to this drastic change taking place in their academic life. Once again, a drastic event is not being recognized as such and Towson expects its students to operate as robots and automatically “adjust”. With an extended spring break, us students will have time to figure out our own personal next steps without having to also stress about the messages and updates flooding our Blackboard accounts. Teachers will also have the opportunity to get a head start on much of the work they have to contribute to this new form of teaching or to continue assisting students in understanding how communication will now work for their class. Teachers would also have the opportunity to continue adjusting to this new form of teaching.
All classes with assignments and exams due this week should be required to extend those due dates until at least April 6th. All other assignments intended for this upcoming week should be extended, too.
