Reject proposed increases to out of state tuition

Reject proposed increases to out of state tuition
The Issue
On December 10th, the Board of Regents heard a proposal from President Kaler to increase out-of-state, non-reciprocity, tuition by $3,200 a year for the next four years. This amounts to a 15 percent increase per year from current nonresident tuition rates. This would amount to a $12,800 increase for a newly admitted first year student in the class of 2020. It is unclear how this would impact current University of Minnesota students. While this proposal has not been approved by the Regents, the trajectory of the conversation and the lack of consideration of the impact on students are concerning.
The Minnesota Student Association, the undergraduate student government, held a special Forum meeting on Tuesday, December 15th at 5pm in MCB 3-120 and voted on a statement in opposition to the proposal. All members of the University community were encouraged to attend. Moving forward, we encourage students to share their opinion on the proposed increase and the impact it might have on their financial situation.
Please sign this statement to say you oppose this increase and that lack of transparency on the part of the University of Minnesota.
