Stop the demolition of Ochs/Shivelbine House and integrate it into the overall Greek Village development.

The Issue

Because this is the remaining house. On 16 March, Greystone was demolished. President Kenneth Dobbins should compromise by keeping and restoring Ochs/Shivelbine House, and utilizing it within the Greek Village.

Ochs/Shivelbine House, built in the 20's, is a beautiful, old, historic home of architectural value, and should be saved for future generations to see and enjoy. Integrate this house into the overall development, instead of razing it. It could be used as a club house or as accommodation for people visiting the University, perhaps having a restaurant there. President Kenneth Dobbins and The Board of Regents could create a stunning Greek Village site, including this remaining house, that it and The Greek Village could be proud of. The previous Greek site is an eyesore and a blot on the landscape. The plans for the new Greek Village look OK but could be enhanced with the addition of the Ochs/Shivelbine House. There is no need to tear it down. Please let President Kenneth Dobbins, and The Board of Regents know that we want Ochs/Shivelbine house saved from being demolished and integrated into the new development.

Other universities in the US have integrated old historic houses with modern buildings on their campuses with superb results. The irony is that SEMO has a wonderful Historic Preservation Program. President Dobbin's decision to raze Greystone and Ochs/Shivelbine house next, makes a mockery of this program.
