Why this petition matters

Started by Reform DC

Currently, cannabis is unjustly classified as a Schedule I substance, together with undoubtably more harmful substances such as Heroin and LSD, and above far more dangerous drugs such as cocaine, morphine, methadone, and fentanyl. Under its current classification, cannabis is not accepted for medical use on the federal level, which has caused dire affects to medical research and advancement. Patients suffering Multiple Sclerosis, seizure disorders, various forms of cancer and veterans suffering from anxiety and PTSD are unable to explore cannabis derived treatment options.

To be clear, we do not negate the benefit of traditional opioids & therapies, but question why the federal government continues to bar access to innovative, proven and in many cases safer alternatives.

Initiatives such as The Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment and Expungement Act and The Medical Marijuana Research Act need support from this administration.  Support to remove restrictions to federal researchers studying marijuana, prohibit retribution by Veterans Affairs against physicians who recommend the substance, prohibiting retribution by Federal Agencies against security clearance employees, contractors and applicants who have prior marijuana use or who invest in marijuana stocks.

For the sake of physical and mental health patients across America as well as federal workers, contractors and applicants, the classification of Marijuana must be addressed. The status quo only hurts patients and condemns too many to incarceration. Lives are at stake.
