Thank you for your support of this critical campaign. On May 5th, the Biden administration declared that they temporarily suspend patent rights on the COVID-19 Vaccine. The petition, targeted emails, and tweets that we took part in, I believe, provided some of the critical pressure needed to produce this outcome.

Suspending the patents for the COVID-19 vaccine is a critical step, however, other important things need to happen to help the world really scale the production of the vaccine. There are trade secrets and technical knowledge not in a patent that Moderna, Pfizer, and J&J know that is really important to scale up manufacturing. To this effect, the World Health Organization (WHO) had created the mRNA technical transfer hub to help facilitate this sharing of insider knowledge but Moderna and Pfizer have not participated. The next iteration of this petition that I'm proposing would focus on getting these companies, Moderna and Pfizer (BioNTech) and CureVac, another German company that has developed an mRNA vaccine with a longer shelf life, to participate in in the WHO's mRNA Technology Transfer Hub.
