Give amnesty to illegal immigrants
Give amnesty to illegal immigrants
The Issue
Dear Representative
Illegal immigration has been a topic of discussion for many years and will continue to be a rising issue for the U.S. The number of individuals that enter into this country illegally on a daily basis has decreased since 9/11 but still remains at an all time high. Many Americans are complaining that illegal immigrants are over taking the job market and adding to the economic deficiency of the U.S.
Granting amnesty to illegal immigrants who have been in the U.S. for a minimum of five years and that do not have criminal history would alleviate the work of deportation officers. This would allow the officers to deport those individuals who are a threat to the people of this country. Additionally, amnesty would also allow illegal immigrants to pay taxes. An increase in the amount of money that is taken out for Medicare and social security would develop. These monies would be filtered back into the U.S. economy which would provide economic stimulation.
As it stands now, illegal immigrants are filtering into the U.S. to work to provide for their families back in their own countries. Granting amnesty to immigrants without criminal history could be beneficial to the U.S. in ways that sometimes go unrecognized. Many times we, the U.S., spend great amounts of money in efforts to assists other countries. If some of the immigrants from those countries were granted amnesty, they are then able to provide for their families and may reduce the amount of financial resources the U.S. has to provide.
A majority of these illegal immigrants cannot work legally in the U.S.; therefore they obtain jobs in which they are paid in cash, do not pay taxes or pay into Medicare and Social Security systems. A majority of the jobs that the immigrants work are jobs that Americans are not willing to do. For example, the following jobs are known to employ illegal immigrants: construction, janitorial, and housekeeping.
America does not need criminals to enter into our sanctuary, yes, but some of these immigrants are not criminals. Some immigrants have been in the United States for 10 or more years and have never committed a crime. These immigrants should be given an opportunity to become citizens and pay taxes to live a life of prosperity with their family. People do not have a choice on where they are born but should have a choice on where they live.
Families of illegal immigrants have been torn apart. What are we really solving by forcing out illegal immigrants? A majority of illegal immigrants' children have been born in the U.S. and are U.S. citizens. A majority of the illegal immigrants deported return immediately after deportation. A large percentage of immigrants that are deported are the primary income of their family. When these individuals are deported, the children left behind have to be taken care of by the State. This increases the burden on the economy.
Blanket amnesty needs to be granted for those individuals that have been in the United States for more than five years without committing a crime. We have the resources to conduct extensive background checks. We can use these resources to complete a thorough background investigation on the individual requesting entry into the U.S. The individual should pay for this background investigation to be completed prior to being granted access into the U.S.
Amnesty needs to be a topic of discussion and to be considered. Immigrants are going to continue to enter into this country illegally, regardless of the measures that are being taken to prevent this from happening. Why not grant amnesty to those who abide by the laws of the U.S.? This would decrease the number of children that are being abandoned and left to rely on the State and it would increase the amount of money paid back into the economy. Everyone deserves a chance at success and freedom!
