Zimbabwe's learners continue to lose learning time as teachers are severely incapacitated because of underpayment. The right to education for 4,6 million learners in Zimbabwe is being violated. Section 75 of Zimbabwe's constitution mandates government to protect the right to education. Teachers in Zimbabwe are earning a paltry USD 50 which is a violation of the right to a fair remuneration as espoused in section 65 of Zimbabwe's constitution. Salaries for educators were illegally slashed in 2018 through currency reforms. In 2018 educators used to earn USD 520 per month, which was slashed to USD 35 monthly. Teachers are starving in their homes. They cannot even afford to pay tuition fees for their own children. Zimbabwe's gvt must urgently pay teachers a living wage and restore normalcy in our education. Gvt must stop threatening and harrassing teachers who are simply demanding a living wage. Zimbabwe's teachers are severely incapacitated and can only be capacitated when the value of their salaries is restored to a minimum of USD 520.
